Today, I want to talk about a few aspects of the machiya experience,
which I want everyone to be aware of.
I hope you'll look at it, even though it's not a very clear story.

We do occasionally receive comments like
"I can hear the sound of rats and animals running on the ceiling and outside walls,"
though they are rare.

There might be some spaces between the outside and the loft
because this is not exactly like the structure of a typical house,
and some parts are still in use from their previous purpose.
It's typical for pests to cohabit in townhouses
without being taken out unless they cause a real threat.

But since our business offers lodgings that allow you to live like you would in a townhouse,
we take necessary measures every day.

Although there are many who claim that this was not the case at other accommodations,
the type of harm caused varies according to the local environment.
Many Kyoto townhouses have been preserved in the area surrounding our hotel,
which may explain why such a thing occurs center of the city.

My grandfather's house is located deep in the Wakayama highlands,
surrounded by farmland, mountains, rivers, and mandarin orange trees as I write this.
Since the house is almost a century old, you can frequently hear weasels running across the ceiling at night.
Seeing a weasel as a child made me both interested and afraid, but now,
I feel at ease and say, "It's running again," when it runs around the house.

We don't want you to experience such a real thing, but we hope that you will see it as an
``experience'' that will help you know that ``that's what a townhouse is like.'' 


Numerous Japanese homes have animal-related names, such as
"insect cage window," "inuyarai," "monkey cheek mask," "kamoi," and "nekoma shoji."
This point of view shows that old humans as well as animals coexisted.
Animals are also a part of life, but the current style of leaving out non-human species
because they are scary seems to have increased recently.

As I said at the beginning,
this is an uncommon point of view, thus it does not occur frequently.
But that doesn't mean it won't happen.
We advise you not to stay overnight if you are truly worried.
